INTRODUCTION
When I first heard about Ashfall, I was excited. A post-apocalyptic MMORPG with Fallout vibes, third-person shooter combat, and PvP elements? It sounded like the perfect mix of survival and action. The idea of venturing into a nuclear wasteland, battling AI-driven threats, and building my character with RPG-style progression was exactly what I was looking for.
After spending hours exploring Ashfall’s world, I have mixed feelings. While the game has solid shooting mechanics and an engaging atmosphere, it struggles with some clunky movement, mobile performance issues, and an underwhelming story. Here’s my full breakdown of my experience.
___
OVER VIEW:
Jumping into Ashfall felt like stepping into a world heavily inspired by Fallout and Metro, but with its own twist. The game starts with a brief but intense introduction, throwing you into a war between humanity and robots before transitioning into a bleak wasteland. I appreciated how quickly it got me into the action instead of making me sit through a long setup.
Combat in Ashfall is one of its stronger aspects. The third-person shooter mechanics feel satisfying, rewarding precision and strategy over reckless shooting. It reminded me of the Resident Evil remakes, where careful aiming is more effective than spraying bullets. The cover-based shooting felt intuitive, but movement was another story. While the game is still in Testing Face but Unfortunately, I often found myself frustrated with clunky controls, especially since crouching and vaulting aren’t possible.
The game also relies on a node-based overworld map instead of a true open world, which was a bit disappointing at first but then I started have fun. Instead of running freely between locations, I had to navigate through preset routes and random encounters and that what makes it interesting. While it added a JRPG-style sense of adventure, I sometimes wished for more freedom.
GAMEPLAY & FEATURES
One of Ashfall’s best features is its class system. Instead of locking me into one role, the game let me choose from different archetypes like Gunslinger (speed and accuracy), Safeguard (tank-like defense), or Scavenger (better loot and storage). Even better, I could respec my character anytime, meaning I wasn’t stuck with a bad decision.
I also liked the survival elements. Exploring abandoned towns, scavenging for loot, and making tough choices on what to keep and what to leave behind made the world feel immersive. There’s a crafting system, but it felt a bit shallow—I mostly used it for small upgrades rather than meaningful gear progression.
PVE was an interesting addition, but I didn’t spend too much time with it. In my limited experience, fights felt balanced, though movement issues sometimes made aiming more frustrating than it should be.
GRAPHICS & PERFORMANCE
Visually, Ashfall is pretty solid even on mobile devices. The world is detailed, with bleak, dusty environments that feel appropriately ruined by war. It doesn’t have the ultra-polished look of a PC MMO, but for a mobile game, the graphics were impressive to be honest. The character models and lighting effects, water reflection, grass movement etc, really stood out,
Unfortunately, performance was another story. I tried this game on my High-End device but I seems the Graphics settings are locked for mobile devices, If you switch on MaxGraphics you would get 30 FPS and if on Medium you can get 60 FPS, Whoever the game struggled to maintain a smooth frame rate, On MaxGraphics the FPS where constant 30. While on Medium Graphics the FPS where constant 60, There where some dips especially in fast combat. Its pretty impressive, The game is still in Testing testing face so there would be some unfinished work.

PROS: ✅
Pros: ✅
✅ Satisfying gunplay – Combat rewards skill and precision.
✅ Class system & flexibility – Ability to respec and experiment with different builds.
✅ Great atmosphere – The world feels genuinely post-apocalyptic.
✅ Exploration & decision-making – Interesting events and encounters keep things fresh.
✅ Crossplay support – Seamless transition between PC and mobile.
CONS: ❌
❌ Clunky movement – No vaulting, crouching, or jumping makes navigation frustrating.
❌ Performance issues on mobile – Frame rate struggles even on high-end devices.
❌ Underwhelming story – The premise is great, but the narrative isn’t as deep as I hoped.
❌ Limited open-world feel – The overworld map feels restrictive compared to true open-world MMOs.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I really love Ashfall, and in many ways, I do. The gunplay is fun, the world is immersive, and the RPG mechanics allow for plenty of customization. But movement issues and mobile optimization hold it back from being truly great. If you’re a fan of Fallout-style post-apocalyptic settings and can overlook the flaws, Ashfall is truly worth trying. However, if you’re looking for a smooth, polished MMORPG experience, you might want to wait for future updates.
Would I keep playing? Yes, but with tempered expectations. Hopefully, the developers fine-tune the controls and performance, because Ashfall has the potential to be an incredible game.
