Running in early access for four years now, Phasmophobia is practically a classic—and it’s freakin’ scary with the right company. Ever wanted to be a ghost hunter? Well, now’s your chance. Just pray that your friends don’t mischievously lock you in a room or leave you behind for dead. In this game, you navigate abandoned and haunted houses with three of your friends as paranormal investigators. You must collect evidence of any ghostly beings to sell to a ghost removal team. Prepare for laughs, screams, and a ton of shouting, because Phasmophobia is where you test your friendships and your sanity at the same time.

The Forest is one of my all-time favorite co-op survival games to play with friends, but Sons of the Forest takes that experience to a whole new level. This sequel polishes everything that made The Forest so attractive and introduces an entirely new world filled with different monsters, weapons, and buildings. If you’re looking for a co-op game where you can build, gather, and kill creatures while having riotously funny events happen, Sons of the Forest is it.

Cashing in on the trend started by Among Us, Secret Neighbor is a social deduction game where six players must enter the infamous house from Hello Neighbor to rescue a friend from its basement. There’s just one problem: One of those six intruders is actually the neighbor in disguise, and the group will have to figure out who it is if they hope to survive. If you’ve enjoyed games like Deceit, Goose Goose Duck, or Among Us, Secret Neighbor might be the perfect game to boot up with buddies.

Looking for a fright? Maybe something a little more scary? Devour will let you navigate dark rooms and attempt to stop possessed cultists from performing their hellish rituals while trying to survive the onslaught of horrors that come. You can play it with three other friends and should—safety in numbers, right? But expect a lot of screams and panic, because this game isn’t for the faint of heart.

I’ve shared some spooky games here, but Escape the Backrooms is likely the most unsettling of the whole bunch. In this game, you and up to three other friends must explore a seemingly infinite expanse of eerily familiar levels based on creepypasta lore. The only way you’ll be able to escape the backrooms is by communicating with your teammates through proximity voice chat. There are more than twenty unique levels filled with horrific entities and unusual creatures, with new content continuing to be added as the game moves through early access. I suggest playing with friends, but don’t be too loud. They can hear you.
