One of the original Dark Souls clones is back in reboot form

These days, we've got more Soulslike games than you can shake a stick at—from the recently released, Pinocchio-inspired Lies of P to the hardcore take on Chinese history and mythology found in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Things were quite different in 2014, though; only two Dark Souls games had been released so far (three if you count 2009's Demon's Souls), and very few developers had tried to emulate FromSoftware's hyper-difficult formula. It wasn't necessarily a huge success, but 2014's Lords of the Fallen was one of the first real Soulslikes.
The original Lords of the Fallen developer has gone on to create more Soulslikes and other action-RPGs like this year's Atlas Fallen, but now, almost a decade later, publisher CI Games is rebooting that early Souls clone with a new developer. The new Lords of the Fallen has the same name as the 2014 game but is a totally new experience.
In addition to the intense combat seen in titles like Dark Souls, Lords of the Fallen has some unique twists. For one, it's actually set in two parallel worlds, with the player character shifting between the world of the living and the realm of the dead. Dying in the game will actually banish players to that second world, giving them an extra chance to revive themselves...if they can handle the challenge. And as is standard with many Soulslikes these days, Lords of the Fallen will also include both co-op multiplayer and PvP invasions.
If this is sounding like a Soulslike that's worth taking a shot on, Lords of the Fallen launches on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. The regular edition of the game will cost $59.99, but a deluxe edition will also be available for $69.99. That deluxe edition includes a unique starting class with its own armor and weapon set, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack.
